A “Bean Fairy” contributes funds that we use to send a gift of vanilla beans to those in difficult circumstances or who have fallen on hard times. It's a wonderful opportunity to think of others and send a gift that will brighten someone's day! It's hard not to smile when holding a package of fragrant vanilla beans. This special bean fairy fund was created in honor of one of our most active, kind, and helpful group members, Sly Otypka, who is battling lung cancer. Sly does not want any gifts or donations, but we did convince her to let us pay forward her goodness. Gifts will be sent anonymously with a note, "Gift from Sly's Bean Fairies."
A contribution to the Bean Fairy Fund can be made specifically for a certain individual (please contact Kathryn Fifield Espenschied via Facebook Messenger or email IndriVanilla@gmail.com to coordinate that gift) or it can be made to the general bean fairy fund. Donations in any amount are welcome! These funds are used specifically for sending bean gifts to those who have been nominated. Click the link below to send your donation.
You can nominate a person to receive a Bean Fairy gift by using the nomination form linked below. Gifts will average 2-4 oz of beans. A nomination is not a guarantee of a vanilla bean delivery but rather an opportunity to think generously of others. Nominations need not be limited to group members, nor do they require contact information, though it is helpful if you’re able to provide it. We can contact nominees and request shipping information as needed. Donations are not required to nominate someone. If the nominations outnumber the donations, we may temporarily close the nomination form, but we will open it again as soon as the Bean Fairy Fund has gifts to share!
Bean fairy whoever you are thank you. I can’t even describe my feelings. But I feel overwhelmed by the richness and love of this gift. And I don’t even know what to do now. Thank you from the tips of my toes to the top of my head. This richness will last me many many years.
I was nominated for the bean fairy program- y’all- I literally cried that I was nominated. I work in Special Ed and today was rough- when I got the message that I had been nominated I literally cried. You guys are so amazing. This is such a family- literally.
Thank for Bean Fairy for brightening my day. Since November I've had multiple surgeries, complications from surgeries, kidney stones, multiple ER visits, water heater blowing and flooding the basement, and now my 8 year old and I both have covid. I think some homemade ice cream with vanilla bean is exactly what our poor sore throats need right now.
To the “bean fairy,”
What a pleasant surprise I received in the mail today! A big thank you so much. You all, it's been such a rough couple of weeks. Someone ran a stop sign and I T-boned the car. I hurt everywhere and have a concussion. Add dr's appoints and looking for another car plus being a mom's taxi service. Been so down lately, then this package showed up. Joy! I inhaled that great scent and saw the vanilla fairy label and almost cried. Things are looking up. It was a ray of sunshine and you have no idea how much I needed that.
This group is amazing!
I nominated my sister for a Bean Fairy gift. She recently was told she has cervical cancer, and it has been really tough for her and her family. I was hoping she would get them close to her surgery or post-surgery to bring her spirits up. She called me to tell me she got them today while crying.
Thank you for donating. I love this group and everything it stands for 😭. Just know ya'll gave a mom and her teenage kids the ability to cook and create something together during a very emotionally charged and physically difficult time.
These came in the mail today.
The short of it: I'm in tears. This is the nicest thing that's happened to me in a long time. These beans give me hope that I can still do some things that I love, even if I can't do all the things.
I have a cute little kitchen and on good days I can cook. I love cooking and baking. I read and crochet - quiet things, so as not to upset my conditions. I worry that I'll lose those things, too, the last bastions of productivity in my life.
But while I can, I'm going to cook and bake. I'm going to make wonderful things with these beans and enjoy the time I have, while I have it. They're Beans of Hope, really.
Thank you so much to all who contributed to Bean Fairies. If you're thinking about contributing, just know that something so simple can do so much good and offer so much joy.
Looking forward to sharing this vanilla adventure with you all.
